Possibly the best short beach walk in the world (especially on a fine day and definitely best early in the morning with a low tide)? (Maybe we are biased… but certainly if you choose your tide and your weather, and if you like beach-combing, watching wildlife and enjoying nature, there cannot be many places in the world better than this).
First glimpse of the sea, a view which changes every time we visit Aramoana Beach
Looking south towards Tairoa Heads
Wide expanses
Some very long sand slopes
A very clean beach
Keyhole rock and nearby penguin nesting dune area
Something has been walking up the beach
Strange tracks
Towards Heywards Point
The end of the beach. A favourite haul-out for Fur Seals. Jacob’s ladder at the far end; but only for the sure-fotted as the grass can be very slippery for those with inappropriate footware
Further on the cliff stays wet allowing interesting plants to grow
